qEEG Testing
Testing you need to get the treatment you deserve
Understanding qEEG Testing
Your brain generates electrical signals (brainwaves) that can be recorded when electrodes are placed on your scalp.
The quantitative EEG (or qEEG) is a process in which the recorded brainwave activity is compared to a normative database to produce a colored brain map.

The quantitative EEG (or qEEG) is a process in which the recorded brainwave activity is compared to a normative database to produce a colored brain map.
How is this helpful to my provider?
The qEEG report will show areas within your brain that are producing too much or too little of a specific brainwave. It may also show regions of the brain that are functioning abnormally which may be the source of your symptoms.
There is now an extensive knowledge base from the neuroimaging literature linking dysfunction from different regions of the brain and several brainwave profiles to a number of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and more.

What to know before your qEEG appointment?
First, we ask that you refrain from excessive caffeine intake the day of the appointment. Second, getting a good night’s sleep before your appointment can be beneficial so that you remain awake and alert during the recordings.
Third, we ask that you arrive for your appointment with clean and dry hair. If you normally wear a head covering of any kind, you will need to remove it for the appointment so that the technician will be able to access your scalp.

What to expect the day of your qEEG Test?
The assessment is easy and non-invasive. During your qEEG appointment, a cap that contains 19 electrodes will be placed on your scalp. Gel is used to create the contact needed between the scalp and the electrodes in order to record your brainwaves. You will be seated comfortably in a chair while recordings of your brain activity are made during both eyes-open and eyes-closed periods. You will also be asked to complete a brief questionnaire on the computer. The qEEG appointment takes 45 minutes to an hour. Your doctor should have the results within 7 days.
