Dr. Ron Moomaw graduated from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He subsequently completed a combined civilian/military residency at Wright- Patterson Air Force Base. Dr. Moomaw is a lifetime board-certified Psychiatrist with the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. He has additional certification as a NASA Flight Surgeon and an Air Force Certified Flight Surgeon/Combat Casualty with a sub-specialty in Aerospace Medicine.
Dr. Moomaw is experienced in the evaluation and management of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, ADHD, substance abuse disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stress management, behavioral issues secondary to traumatic brain injury, and other major mental illnesses.
His recent medical expertise includes 13 years as the 7th psychiatrist in NASA history, providing direct care to astronauts and their families, small-group treatment for insomnia, and was a member of the First Responder team in support of NASA onsite at Kennedy Space Center for launches of STS 129 – STS 135. During this time, he was also a staff psychiatrist at Methodist Transplant and Specialty Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Moomaw served as a Major in the US Air Force, staff psychiatrist for the largest psychiatric residency training program in the Air Force, a section commander, and director of outpatient services and the alcohol and drug rehabilitation unit. Later, he worked as Chief Psychiatrist/Director of Human Services for the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for the state of Ohio for eight years. Dr. Moomaw also opened and directed the emergency psychiatric treatment for two, 24-hour Psychiatric Emergency Centers for NetCare Corporation from 1993 – 2000.
Dr. Moomaw was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, and an Assistant Professor at the Ohio University Heritage
College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, and has served on numerous state and national boards.

2024 - Phillips Award from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
2021 – Awarded a National Medal for Exceptional Public Service Medal (EPSM) for performance and vital contributions to NASA. Dr. Moomaw was the first physician to be honored with this award. Additional awards: Air Force Achievement Medal, a Distinguished Alumni Medal from Otterbein University, a Fellow of the American College of Neurologist and Psychiatrists, a Distinguished Service Award from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and was the Commencement Address speaker for Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016.
