Dr. Shanila Shagufta is a highly skilled Psychiatrist in Texas with a focus on child and adolescent psychiatry. Since beginning her practice in 2018, Dr. Shagufta has dedicated herself to providing comprehensive mental health care using both psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions. Her treatment methods include play therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), and positive psychiatry for resilience building.
Dr. Shagufta adheres to the philosophy that “children do well if they can and so do parents.” She believes that understanding children holistically not only improves their relationship with their primary caregivers but also encourages them to develop essential skills. Each case she handles is unique and complex, requiring a tailored approach to treatment.

In addition to her work with children, Dr. Shagufta is committed to advancing alternative treatment options as our understanding of neuroscience and neural networks continues to grow. She emphasizes robust CRISIS management plans for depression aimed at achieving remission. Dr. Shagufta also provides individual therapy and medication management for young adults and recommends interventional procedures such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Esketamine, and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) when necessary.

Dr. Shagufta has a strong commitment to community service. She has worked with NAMI to raise mental health awareness, provided psychoeducation to teachers through the African American Mental Health Organization, participated in the WHO's polio eradication drive, and contributed to earthquake relief efforts with the Pakistan Air Force.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Shagufta enjoys a mix of adventurous and homebody activities. She loves sky diving, scuba diving, biking, and hiking. At home, she enjoys cooking, baking, practicing yoga, reading, and is an enthusiastic Harry Potter fan.
Dr. Shagufta's contributions to her field have been recognized with various awards and honors. She presented at the APA on the topic of early intervention on the pathway to violence.
Dr. Shagufta specializes in treating behavioral challenges, ADHD, and mood disorders in children and adolescents. She also has expertise in addressing refractory mood issues such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
During her residency training, Dr. Shagufta served as Chief Psychopharmacology Resident. She won second place for her poster presentation on Non-Alcoholic Wernicke’s Encephalopathy at the Psychiatric Society of Delaware and another second place for her poster presentation on Polypharmacy Induced Delirium at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society.
