Resistance itself is sacred. It’s about fighting for presence, meaning, and light even when darkness feels inevitable. Psychiatry, to me, is that same defiance - helping people rediscover the will to live vividly, not just survive."

Compassionate Care For Patients

Dr. Chance Whinnery is a board-certified psychiatrist at Salience Health’s McKinney location, dedicated to helping patients find clarity, steadiness, and renewed purpose in their lives. Born in Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Whinnery practices with a philosophy grounded in genuine listening and curiosity—taking time to understand the full story before forming conclusions or treatment plans. He believes that diagnosis should be thoughtful and precise, integrating mind, body, sleep, stress, and lifestyle factors to uncover the deeper roots of each patient’s challenges.

Dr. Whinnery is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with advanced training across several integrative and evidence-based modalities. He is TMS Certified through the Medical University of South Carolina’s Brain Stimulation Intensive Course and holds certifications in Perinatal Mental Health and Psychopharmacology (PMH-C), Compassionate Bereavement Care (CBC), Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, Nutritional Psychiatry, and EMDR. His multidisciplinary foundation enables him to provide care that bridges biological precision, psychological depth, and holistic healing.

His professional achievements include multiple first-author publications on brain ischemia and mechanisms of loss of consciousness, as well as presentations at forensic and consultation-liaison psychiatry case conferences focused on the assessment and management of catatonia.

Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Whinnery is preparing to combine his interests in amateur radio and meteorology through involvement with North Texas SKYWARN groups. He also enjoys SCUBA diving, hiking, snow mountaineering, and exploring severe weather systems through applied meteorology and mesoscale analysis. When indoors, he finds balance through artisan baking and crafting homemade pasta.

Through humility, curiosity, and collaboration, Dr. Whinnery strives to help each patient move forward at a sustainable pace—building resilience, restoring balance, and helping them feel capable and alive in their daily lives once again.
