Markie was born in North Carolina and moved to Texas with her husband in 1984. She attended Meredith College (now university) in Raleigh and completed her bachelor’s degree at NC State University. Afterward, She continued her education and earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Georgia with a concentration in Child and Family.
She worked with the Department of Social Services, serving as a Child and Adult protective service worker. She later served as a supervisor of Children’s Services and Chair of the adoptions committee. Upon arriving in Texas, she worked in the clinical assessment departments of several local psychiatric facilities. She also has been a director of inpatient Adult Psychiatric and Chemical dependency units, in charge of Adult Day hospital programs, inpatient Adolescent program therapist, Adult program therapist, case manager, and utilization review specialist. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor. In addition, she served as a field instructor for the University of Texas at Arlington School of social work master’s program.
When not working, she loves to work in her yard gardening, has two dogs, and is an AVID sports fan and a season ticket holder for the Dallas Stars.
